Lots of meat and fish

Young Again have a single dry dog food recipe called 40/16. That may sound like a strange name for a dog food but it’s actually very significant. It stands for 40% protein16% fat. That’s very impressive, especially when you consider most supermarket foods average around 20% protein.

If you’re not impressed already, there’s more. A dog’s digestive system will process meat proteins far more efficiently than vegetable proteins, and the beauty of this product is all the protein comes from animals. That’s astounding! Have a look at most supermarket brands and you’ll find them stuffed with fillers like corn which contain less digestible protein.

Ok, let’s bring this back down to earth. The first ingredient is pork meal, and it’s great to see a meat meal in the top spot, but the second ingredient is potato starch. This isn’t good. It’s regarded as a filler and can cause weight gain and digestive upset. It’s also a cheap ingredient, so it’s not good seeing it in the 2nd spot. The other concerning ingredient is tomato pomace, also in the top five, another culprit for digestive upset due to acidity levels. We find this in many foods, but not often in the top ingredients.

Those two negatives aside and this is an excellent food.

I’ll give it 8/10 due to the astounding meat content.
