💡 Ask yourself this… Would you feed a meat-eating obligate carnivore brewers rice, corn gluten meal, and wheat flour?
Nope, I thought not, but all that goodness is in Purina Pro Plan SAVOR.
On the front of the bag you’ll find a bold claim – “Salmon is The #1 Ingredient” (or Chicken, or whatever). But it’s deceiving as the rice and corn can be in equal proportions, making it two parts filler to one part salmon. What’s worse is the salmon is wet weight, so once baked into a kibble will whittle down to about 30%. That means salmon in the final product will be pretty much insignificant 😕
We also see a “high protein” claim, but protein from rice and corn isn’t efficiently digested by a cat. It’s convenient for Purina though, as rice and corn allow them to make the food really cheaply. We call that profit first, as those ingredients aren’t for the health of your cat.
Ok, so there’s some fancy ingredients further down the list, but they’re standard vitamins and minerals which are required to make what is essentially a rice and corn product a “complete and balanced” food product for a cat.
