AvoDerm

AvoDerm seems to be a better dog food than it is a cat food. The “Avo” comes from “Avocado”, which is their trademark ingredient, and it’s a good ingredient as well.

There’s a variety of flavors in the range so I’ll focus on the Chicken Meal & Brown Rice formula for this review. The other flavors seem pretty much the same but with different meat sources.

Chicken meal is the first ingredient, and herring meal is found a lot further down the list. It’s good to see a meat meal as the prime ingredient but it would be nice to see a few more in the top five. The food contains no by-products, corn, wheat, soy, or animal digest, so that’s a definite plus.

The grain of choice for this food is rice, which is the best you can do for digestion, but rice bran is not a good form of rice to be feeding, nutritionally speaking.

The avocado is a very interesting ingredient, and I believe it to be pretty unique to this food. It provides many vitamins, beneficial fatty acids, and provides for a good coat. This is a quality ingredient. Flaxseed is included for a further good fat source, which is great to see.

Overall, it’s a pretty good food. The ingredients are good but it’s very grain heavy. It’s a low 4 star.

Where to buy?

What’s good about this food….

Chicken meal is first ingredient, grains are pretty solid, avocados are a great ingredient, flax-seed, herring meal is another meat source.

….and what’s not so good.

Too many grains and rice bran isn’t a great ingredient.
