Bil-Jac Select

Bil-Jac Select

This review is for Bil-Jac Select Adult, but also applies to Small Breed and Large Breed Adult which are variations on the theme.

By-products seem to dominate these foods, both 2nd and 4th ingredients in the food. By-products used to be the main ingredient but they’ve swapped that for chicken which is a slight improvement. They say the first one isn’t SO bad because it’s only organs, a source of arginine, but I really still don’t want to see this as an ingredient.

The main grain in the food is corn which is a poor choice, with the only positive being it isn’t a heavily grain loaded food. We also find brewers yeast, a waste product from the brewing industry.

Looking on the bright side, we find the inclusion of flaxseed and a range of vitamins and minerals. Other than the by-products and grains there’s nothing else startingly bad in the food.

Personally I’d save my money on this one, it just has too little going for it. They have a grain free food as well which is a better alternative.

Where to buy?

What’s good about this food….

Chicken is the main ingredient.

….and what’s not so good.

Wide use of by-products, corn is high on list, brewers yeast.

  1. I fed bil-jac to my st bernard/pointer for his whole life, and could not be happier with it. I never rationed his food, and through his whole adult life, his weight stayed between 70-73 lbs. I really think it says a lot about a food when a dogs natural eating tendencies are in line with the nutritional value of the dog food, and healthy weight can be maintained through a lifetime. His stools were always dark and firm which made for easy yard clean-up.

  2. I switched from nutro after Nutro got bought out by Diamond I think. My AKC dogs love Biljack and it suits them well. Coats and agility is far better than before. Stools always strong never loose.

I do however use Blue treats that they also love so they do have somewhat a variety. Ahh one thing I forgot to mention was the groomer for my Poodle was amazed at her coat and asked what I was feeding her.
