The grain free range from Earthborn Holistic is fantastic, but if you have an older or less active dog then their standard range could be for you.
This review is based on the Adult Vantage variety.
The main ingredient is chicken meal, so we’re on the right track. A meat “meal” is more concentrated than regular meat so we can rest assured there’s a decent source of digestible animal protein in this food.
We can’t complain about the choice of grains, with oatmeal and barley being amongst the best grains available. Brown rice is better to see than white rice. My only qualm is it’s very grain heavy, and I’d prefer to see another meat source in the top ingredients. Having rye flour, potatoes, and sweet potatoes really makes this food carb heavy.
Looking beyond the carbs, we find some other decent ingredients – canola oil for a healthy skin and coat, flax seed for heart health, and a range of fruits and veggies that will bring other nutrients to the food.
I’ll give the food 4 stars as there really isn’t anything bad in it, and it would suit older and less active dogs. It’s good value for money too!
