Eukanuba Weight Control

Eukanuba is a household name. You can find it anywhere, vets recommend it, and many dog owners are proud to feed it to their dogs. Given the high price you’d expect a quality product, and they’re bold enough to state “100% High Quality Nutrition” on the packaging. But is it? Let’s see…

Corn meal is the top ingredient in this food, so we’ve fallen at the first hurdle. Yes, corn is great for food manufactures – it’s a filthy cheap filler and leads to $$$s in profit. Sadly it’s not good for dogs, and it’s one of the main causes of allergens. It’s never good to see corn in a dog food, especially not as the main ingredient. You’d think a professional company like Eukanuba would know that?

What else have we got? Chicken – that’s good. Chicken by-product meal – not so good. Sorghum is a starchy grain and, like corn, it’s used because it’s cheap and not because it’s nutritional. Whole grain barley is good to see, especially as other Eukanuba products seem to contain brewers rice, a by-product of beer brewing. It doesn’t get much better than that.

There really isn’t much else to say about this food, it’s not a good product.

I’ve given this food 2 stars as there’s definitely worse foods in the supermarket. Personally I’d keep looking.

Where to buy?

What’s good about this food….

Chicken as the second ingredient, that’s about it.

….and what’s not so good.

I can never recommend a food with a cheap filler as the main ingredient, and it doesn’t get much better.
