Simply Nourish from PetSmart
Simply Nourish is a PetSmart brand of food, available instore and online. It comes in a couple of flavors: Chicken & Brown Rice (for both adult dogs and puppies) and Lamb and Oatmeal. The Chicken recipe seems marginally better as the Lamb recipe seems to be more Oatmeal than Lamb.
This review will focus on the Chicken & Brown Rice recipe for adult dogs, but that being said they’re all relatively similar.
First up we have Chicken and Chicken Meal which is a real plus. I’d never feed a food that didn’t have meat as the main ingredient. The grains in the food are brown rice backed up with oatmeal. I’d rather see whole grain brown rice which is a better choice, but there’s no question that Oatmeal is a decent ingredient.
Unfortunately we find rice flour in the food which is a lousy filler and can cause diabetes and bowl distress in dogs. If they could do away with this rubbish and use whole grain rice then we’d be looking at a better quality of food, but the price reflects this.
We find Canola Oil as a source of much needed omega fatty acids for health and a glossy coat. There’s some debate on quality of this oil, but no real substantial evidence against it. It’s high in omegas which is definitely good.
There’s a range of dried fruits and veggies which is good, but not as good as the fresh ingredients we find in better rated brands. Still, it’s better to have dried ingredients than nothing.
Weighing up the food I’ll give it 3 stars, but it’s a high 3 stars. There’re certainly a lot of worse foods available, so if PetSmart is your local store then this is a good option.

Chicken & Chicken Meal as the top ingredients (note this is not the case with the Lamb recipe). The choice of grains is good.

Rice flour as a cheap filler, dried fruits and veggies instead of fresh ingredients.
