This review is for the Holistic Select Chicken & Rice recipe, but they’re all fairly similar in quality so this review encompasses all. They also have a grain free food for those with that preference.
Chicken Meal is the prime ingredient in the food which can’t be faulted. This ensures a decent source of animal protein, which is what our dogs need. Chicken is a lean meat as well, which is good if you want to keep your dog in good shape.
Ground Brown Rice is the main choice of grain, which isn’t a bad choice. We also have white rice which is a shame as dogs don’t really need grains. Oatmeal is next up which makes this food feel grain heavy, but at least they’re decent grains.
We find pork meal, chicken fat, anchovy and sardine meal – all these boost the levels of quality meat and fish products as well as bringing vital nutrients and oils to the food. Menhaden Fish Oil is a nice inclusion, great for heart health and a healthy coat.
There’s a whole range of fruits and veggies in the food which can’t be a bad thing, as well as a decent range of vitamins and minerals.
Apart from being slightly heavy on grains this is definitely one of the better foods, and it helps that it’s easy to get hold of. Recommended.
